2023/24 Racing Season

The Port Lincoln Racing Club is ready to kick off its 2023/24 season with the track looking in great condition.

The issues that plagued the track early last season, which saw five meetings transferred or cancelled,  look a thing of the past, according to club PLRC Chairman David Reid.

"We will have a magnificent track for the commencement of the season, track staff have done a great job,” he said

“We have re-sod the problem areas around the home turn and halfway up the straight and we're ready to go.

“It’s looking fantastic - right round the entire track.”

There will be action on the track in coming weeks with the local horses set for a hit-out leading into the first meeting.

“We will have trials on September 19 and from a track perspective we are ready to roll,” he said.

Fourteen meetings are programmed for Ravendale Racecourse this season.

"We kick off with a Sunday meeting on the October long weekend and have the usual big meetings later in the season,” Reid said.

“We're back on New Years Eve this season so keep an eye out for some entertainment planned in the lead-up to that day.

“The three Cup race days are always big later in the year - Peninsula, Port Lincoln and Kimba.

“Other race days throughout the season include a Publicans, Tradies and a Ladies Day on Oaks Day - we will finish the season on Sunday, April 7 with the Port Lincoln Auto Car Club in attendance.”

Local trainers will also benefit from improvements in the off-season at the track with the club currently installing a treadmill on Stable Road.

“There’s a lot of money being spent there to install the walker and give trainers another tool to assist in achieving the best results with their horses,” Reid said.

“It’s almost completed and should be ready for the start of the season.”

Memberships are available via the PLRC website.
